In my view, the only holiday that can compare to Halloween is St. Patrick’s Day.
Like it’s autumnal cousin, it’s a holiday that essentially exists in modern day America to give us an excuse for a day-long bacchanal. I live in New York City, and I’m here to tell you that there’s not much more fun than spending the day in an Irish bar with a bunch of Irish cops and firemen in full dress uniform as well as inebriated revelers draped in green.
But some people like to celebrate their ethnic heritage (and we are ALL Irish on St Patrick’s Day) with a touch more sophistication. If you don’t want to put on a leprechaun costume and drink green beer, here are a few sophisticated (green) cocktails to raise the tone of your celebration.
1.5 oz Midori Liqueur
1 oz. Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey
.5 oz Irish Crème
Shake and strain the drink over ice into a double old -fashioned glass. Top the concoction with homemade whipped cream and fresh mint garnish.
VAN DIEMEN’S LAND
1.5 oz Jameson Black Barrel Whiskey
1 whole granny smith apple, juiced
Combine all ingredients in a highball glass with ice.
